This stainless steel sculpture is a result of fascination with aeroplanes from a very young age. Being able to sit in cockpits of airliners during Mac’s childhood (thanks to his aunt who used to work at an airport) ignited this passion which still lives on after many years.
“Supersonic” combines the skills in metalwork and design with the knowledge of construction and engineering of an aeroplane. This sculpture represents the huge technological advancements that went into creating of the iconic Concorde.
The design of this sculpture comprises of two main sections:
The plane itself - with smooth, polished, elegant and graceful lines symbolising progress of aircraft design.
The base - in a shape of an aerofoil with the rough layers riveted together, symbolising the origins of the all-metal aeroplane construction.
